\nAccording to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), there has been an almost 40% increase in the amount of prescriptions allowed for “performance enhancers” since 2007, and in more recent years, abuse of Adderall and its imitators has increased by nearly 200%.\u00a0 Adderall is abused mostly by college students and young adults, and estimates are that somewhere between 20-30 percent of college students regularly abuse Adderall.
\nCalling it an \u201cupper\u201d is like calling a hydrogen bomb a grenade. It is made of pure amphetamine, and has already picked up its share of street monikers: Speed, Beans, Black Beauties, Christmas Trees, and Double Trouble, among others.
\nThere are potential pluses in this “wonder-drug” if used properly, such as increased concentration. However, it also keeps people awake for hours on end, while providing a unique sense of euphoria and happiness. More recently, studies are proving what many in the research community have long known about Adderall and other stimulants, and how we are severely harming our brains and bodies by using and abusing more performance enhancers than ever before.\u00a0
