Baines has a 89-69 record in six seasons as the Bluejays' head coach. \n\nA long-time assistant for the Bluejays, Baines became the 15th men's basketball head coach in Elmhurst history when Mark Scherer announced his retirement from coaching following the 2012-13 season. Baines began his collegiate coaching career at Elmhurst in 2000-01. He spent 10 seasons as Scherer's right-hand man in Elmhurst before becoming the head coach at the University of St. Francis in 2010. In nine seasons as a head coach, Baines has compiled a 146-107 overall record.\n\nBaines began his coaching career at Bloomington High School in 1998 before joining Scherer's coaching staff at Elmhurst.\n\nJohn played his college basketball at Illinois Wesleyan University.
