\nClaiming to represent \u201cmillions of European and other ethno-nationalist peoples\u201d, he said \u201cwe must ensure the existence of our people, and a future for white children\u201d.
\nThe gunman described the attack as an act of \u201crevenge on the invaders for the hundreds of thousands of death caused by foreign invaders in European lands throughout history \u2026 for the enslavement of millions of Europeans taken from their lands by the Islamic slavers \u2026 (and) for the thousands of European lives lost to terror attacks throughout European lands.\u201d
\nHe said the attack was also inspired by a trip he took to France in 2017.
\n\u201cFor many years I had been hearing and reading of the invasion of France by non-whites, many of these rumours and stories I believed to be exaggerations, created to push a political narrative.
\n\u201cBut once I arrived in France, I found the stories not only be true, but profoundly understated. In every French city, in every French town the invaders were there.\u201d
\nTarrant said he feels no remorse for the attack. \u201cI only wish I could have killed more invaders, and more traitors as well.\u201d He also said there \u201cwas a racial component to the attack\u201d and described it as \u201canti-immigration\u201d and \u201can attack in the name of diversity\u201d.
\nPosting on an 8chan forum, a user who identified himself as Tarrant announced he would carry out the attack.
\n\u201cI will carry out an attack against the invaders, and will even live stream the attack via Facebook,\u201d he wrote, with a link to his Facebook page. \u201cIf I don\u2019t survive the attack, goodbye, god bless and I will see you all in Valhalla!\u201d
\nMany anonymous users responded praising him for the attack, with comments like \u201cGodspeed\u201d and \u201cthat video is so goddamn good\u201d.

In his seeming manifesto he professes commitment to the warped ethos of ethno-nationalism and continually refers to himself as white. He can see no identity for himself beyond the one he inherited by birth. Strikingly, the killer appears to say that his attack was done in the name of diversity \u2013 he says he wants \u2018diverse peoples to remain diverse\u2019, meaning identity groups must remain \u2018separate, unique, undiluted, unrestrained in\u2026 cultural expression\u2019.
