This week on the Stock Show Sisters podcast, co-host Riki interviews Lisa Allen as she shares her background growing up in southern New Mexico, showing sheep and pigs, and later moving to West Texas near Midland due to family ties and her husband’s oil-field work. Though not formally trained as an ag teacher, she shifted from insurance recovery to becoming a high school librarian, then stepped into an ag/FFA teaching role midyear, ultimately spending about 10 years advising and traveling with students for stock shows, contests, and agriculture trips (including Costa Rica).

She now works as a conservation educator with Texas Wildlife Association, delivering hands-on K–8 presentations, emphasizing soil health, water conservation, and ecosystem balance, especially for students unfamiliar with agriculture. Lisa also teaches fitness and travels to teach yoga in Mexico, stressing consistency and “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” She discusses show-ring leadership, volunteering, meeting her husband through buying show pigs, raising twin sons (both engaged), running a small show-pig herd and ending with the advice she would give other women in livestock as they find their own paths in agriculture.
