167 | Part Two: 3 Ways to Stop Letting Other People Affect How You Feel About Yourself | Salarah Kacey Starre
How do you stay strong in yourself when somebody disagrees with you, questions your choices, misunderstands you or refuses to give you the validation you want?
In Part One, we explored some of the hidden reasons other people can have such a powerful effect on how we feel about ourselves.
In Part Two, we go deeper.
I’m sharing 3 more powerful ways to stop allowing other people’s opinions, reactions and behaviour to determine your self-worth, and how to begin building the kind of self-trust that allows you to remain connected to yourself even when somebody else sees things differently.
We explore the difference between being competent and actually trusting yourself, why needing somebody else to apologise, understand or validate your experience can unknowingly give your power away, and what happens when you dismiss your own feelings because you’re frightened of what honouring them might require you to do.
Because sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing how you feel.
It’s having the courage to honour it.
In this episode, we explore:
Why competence and self-trust are not the same thing
How other people’s opinions can send us into self-doubt, even when we know what we’re doing
Learning to trust your own decisions when other people disagree
Why seeking reassurance and approval can move you further away from yourself
What happens when your peace depends upon somebody else apologising, understanding or validating you
How to stop making somebody else responsible for making you feel okay again
Why being misunderstood doesn’t have to mean there is something wrong with you
How self-validation helps you take your power back
Why we sometimes dismiss our own feelings to avoid difficult conversations, boundaries or change
The connection between people-pleasing, self-abandonment and low self-worth
Learning to honour your feelings without needing somebody else to agree with them
How speaking up for yourself begins to rebuild self-trust, confidence and emotional safety
This isn’t about becoming unaffected, shutting people out or refusing to listen to feedback.
It’s about developing a strong enough relationship with yourself that you can hear somebody else’s perspective without automatically abandoning your own.
It’s about being able to say, “I can listen to you, consider what you’re saying and still trust myself.”
Perhaps most importantly, it’s about recognising that your healing cannot be dependent upon somebody else’s awakening.
They may never apologise. They may never understand your perspective. They may never validate what happened in the way you hoped they would.
But your peace doesn’t have to remain in their hands.
This work is ultimately about coming home to yourself, learning to trust yourself, validate your own experience, honour your feelings and build the strong internal foundations upon which confidence, self-worth and a beautiful life can grow.
