In this week's episode, I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with the incredible Julie Cole, co-founder of Mabel's Labels, and let me tell you, this woman is a powerhouse. She’s a mom of six, a recovered lawyer (love that!), and an entrepreneur who turned a simple, everyday annoyance into a multi-million dollar brand.
Our conversation was packed with so much wisdom, and I left feeling incredibly inspired. Here are a couple of the gems that really stuck with me:
Your Next Big Idea Might Be Hiding in Plain Sight
How did Mabel’s Labels start? From the simple frustration of losing kids' stuff at daycare! Julie and her co-founders were tired of using masking tape and permanent markers to identify their kid's clothes, so they decided to create a better solution. It’s such a powerful reminder that the most brilliant business ideas often come from solving a problem that drives you crazy in your own life. What’s your "there must be a better way" moment?
From Toddlers to Grandparents: A Lesson in Evolving with Your Customers
This was a lightbulb moment for me. Mabel's Labels started with kids' stuff, but as their customers (and their own families) grew, they saw new needs. They now have labels for seniors in care homes—something I personally connected with while caring for my own mom. It’s a beautiful lesson in listening, adapting, and growing alongside the community you serve.
