In this episode of The Scalable Expert, Tara Bryan dives into a truth that every overwhelmed expert needs to hear: simplicity is the most powerful value you can deliver. Your customers aren’t paying you for everything you know—they’re paying you for the fastest, clearest path to results. And yet, so many business owners unintentionally overcomplicate their programs by trying to over-deliver.
Tara breaks down why more content doesn’t equal more value and how a cluttered delivery system can actually prevent your customers from getting the outcomes they hired you for. She explains how to filter your content through a results-driven lens so you only include what supports your customer’s transformation—and remove what distracts them.
A prime example? The infamous video vault. While it may feel like a value-add, dumping dozens (or hundreds!) of videos into your program without a clear path is more likely to overwhelm than empower. Tara shares why this approach fails, and what to do instead to build a simple, scalable fulfillment system that drives participation, retention, and long-term growth.
Whether you're building a new program or reevaluating an existing one, this episode will help you rethink what your customers really need—and give you the freedom to deliver it with confidence and clarity.

strategist, mentor, and creator
4

5

the grind, and ready to scale your
7
:expertise into a business that works
for you, then you're in the right place.
8
:Each week I'll share actionable
tips, inspiring success stories,
9
:and proven strategies to help you
reclaim your time, grow your income,
10
:and create a business that delivers
results without sacrificing quality.
11
:Let's dive in and make your
business INFINITELY SCALABLE.
12
:Hey everybody.
13
:Welcome to today's episode.
14
:I am thrilled that you're here.
15
:Hey, in this episode, I want to talk about
something that is near and dear to my
16
:heart, which is how do you actually create
a scalable program or systems so that you
17
:are helping your customers get results?
18
:So I heard something the other day,
and I thought it was brilliant.
19
:And, so if this is you,
you need to pay attention.
20
:But she said, um, posting
social media content is not
21
:actually a marketing strategy.
22
:Right?
23
:It is something that you are doing.
24
:It's an activity that
you're doing to be visible.
25
:But it's not your marketing strategy.
26
:It is not even marketing.
27
:All it is, is posting.
28
:So posting is not the
same thing as marketing.
29
:It's not the same thing as your
marketing strategy and how you
30
:are looking at how do you get out
in front of your ideal prospect.
31
:Okay.
32
:It's a bigger, like marketing
strategy is a bigger thing.
33
:Posting is an activity or a task
that is part of a marketing strategy.
34
:So, the same thing applies to
your customer delivery and your
35
:customer fulfillment strategy.
36
:Creating a course, creating a random piece
of content that you're giving to your
37
:customers so that they can learn something
is not your customer fulfillment system.
38
:It is one small task or activity
within your larger system.
39
:So if you're looking at it like,
okay, so I'm just going to create
40
:a bunch of different courses.
41
:Like somebody the other day was
like, I just created a hundred
42
:new courses using ChatGPT!
43
:I was like, super duper.
44
:But that's not actually leading to what
your ultimate customer fulfillment promise
45
:is, which is a transformation or a result
that you're giving to that customer.
46
:And so when you try and patch, you know,
a bunch of videos together, or patch a
47
:bunch of courses together, or whatever
you want to call it, what you're doing is,
48
:it's just same thing as just like posting
a bunch of random stuff on social media.
49
:It's not actually leading that
customer down that path from
50
:point A to point B, right?
51
:So the customer has a problem
and they want the problem solved.
52
:They're hiring you because you're
giving them the fastest path
53
:to go from point A to point B.
54
:That's why they're hiring you, right?
55
:So whether you're delivering it as a
course, as a program, as a one on one
56
:done for you service, as a coaching, it
doesn't matter how you're delivering it.
57
:What you're delivering is the
result from them going from the
58
:problem they have to the result
that they're looking for, right?
59
:Like you are delivering that path.
60
:And so a bunch of random videos
in a video vault or a bunch of
61
:random courses that aren't actually
taking them from point A to point
62
:B that's not actually helping them.
63
:So when you think about that and
compare it to posting on social
64
:media, that's where most of the
time people have got it wrong.
65
:If you're just posting randomly about
random stuff that has nothing to do
66
:with your business, or how somebody
would, you know, kind of travel down
67
:the path of your value ladder in your
business, then you're missing the target.
68
:Same thing on the client fulfillment side.
69
:If you're just like, yep, I'm just
going to give you a bunch of random
70
:topics and videos and courses and
actually, I'm going to give you 552
71
:of them, because I feel like the more
I can give you, the better off you're
72
:going to be, then you're missing,
you're just missing the boat, right?
73
:So actually, you want to give them as
little as possible for them to start
74
:hitting targets that get them closer to
the result that they are looking for.
75
:That, my friends, is what's
going to make you successful.
76
:That is going to make your customers not
only stay and participate, but continue
77
:to work with you on the next problem
they're trying to solve because they know
78
:that you have the ability to give them an
experience that quickly takes them from
79
:where they are to where they want to go
in the path of least resistance, right?
80
:So whenever somebody comes to me,
they're like, well, I want a video
81
:vault, I want to just put all my videos
out there that I've recorded from,
82
:you know, 50 years ago until today.
83
:And I want to just always
be creating new content.
84
:The challenge with that is, that's
not actually serving your customers.
85
:It's distracting your customers.
86
:It's causing more chaos than what could
be happening, which is you just giving
87
:them the fastest path to success.
88
:And so every single video you create,
every single piece of content you
89
:create, needs to go through that
filter is, is it on the path?
90
:Is it on the customer's journey
to going from point A to point B.
91
:If it's not, then it
doesn't need to be there.
92
:Move it into, you know, something
that helps attract your prospects.
93
:If it's something that's super helpful for
somebody in the step that they're in, it
94
:gives them more context, gives them more
practice, gives them a tip or trick of
95
:something that they may not be thinking
about that helps to simplify the process.
96
:Great.
97
:Then put another video in.
98
:But if it's just there because
you want to add something that's
99
:nice to have, take it out.
100
:Don't put it in there.
101
:If you insist on having a video vault,
because I know a lot of my customers
102
:insist on it, put it somewhere else.
103
:Put it outside of the path and say,
and here is more if you want to
104
:take a deeper dive into any of the
topics that I have on the path, then
105
:go here and experience that, right?
106
:But don't put it on the actual path.
107
:Your job as the expert is to take
all of the complexity out and
108
:make it simple so somebody can
follow along and get to a result.
109
:In fact, it should seem so simple to you
that it almost seems like you shouldn't
110
:be selling it because it's too simple.
111
:That is how simple this whole
process needs to be so somebody
112
:can travel from point A to point
B, in the fastest way possible.
113
:So my friends, hopefully that
helps to free you up that you don't
114
:need to create a million videos.
115
:You don't need to make it more
complex than it already is.
116
:You need to use your expertise to
simplify it down to its most simple
117
:path so that somebody can be successful.
118
:And in fact, and I'm going to tell
you this again, in fact, it should
119
:seem so simple that you're like,
why would anybody pay for this?
120
:It's like, seems so simple.
121
:And that my friend is when you
have hit your magic, because that
122
:means that you have been able to
distill it down into something
123
:that's manageable for other people.
124
:And that's what people are paying
you for, believe it or not.
125
:Because what is simple to you
is not simple to someone else.
126
:Always remember that, when
you have an expertise, what
127
:you're doing seems so simple.
128
:And it will seem so simple.
129
:And that's when you know that you actually
have become the expert because you can
130
:do it without thinking about it anymore.
131
:So consider like, here's a
great example, like driving.
132
:You may find yourself, at Target,
or at work, or wherever it is that
133
:you shop, right, a grocery store.
134
:And you're like, how did I even get here?
135
:Like, I'm not even paying attention.
136
:I just ended up in this parking lot.
137
:This is bizarre, right?
138
:That is because driving for you
is so automatic that you're not
139
:even thinking about it anymore.
140
:You know what to do with your feet.
141
:You know what to do with your hands.
142
:You know where to look.
143
:You know how to do all the things.
144
:Because it is something that you
are an expert in, you don't even
145
:need to think about it anymore.
146
:That is exactly the level of
confidence and competence you
147
:have over your subject matter.
148
:But people who are not
experts do not have that.
149
:And so they're looking for you
to give them that fast path.
150
:The more you can do that, the better off
you are and the more successful you are
151
:because you're able to get people results.
152
:So just remember that.
153
:And if you have this need to create
more, then, my friend, put it somewhere
154
:else or think about how you can create
more along the same path, right?
155
:So if you help somebody get from point A
to point B, now help them get from point
156
:B to point C, and then point C to point D.
157
:Like, that's where you could be
putting in your more, because you're
158
:helping them continuously solve new
problems, versus trying to give them
159
:too much information for, the path that
they're on that's not necessary for
160
:what they need to keep moving forward.
161
:Because as somebody becomes an expert,
so as your students become experts,
162
:they're going to naturally want more
depth and context and examples and
163
:they're just going to get deeper into
what it is that you are teaching them.
164
:That is the point in time
where you can give them more
165
:because they are asking for it.
166
:They're ready for it.
167
:But that is like, you know, B to C, C
to D, D to E, you know, as you're going
168
:down the road, and so, keep that in mind.
169
:But hopefully this helps you as
you are trying to figure out,
170
:how do I create what I'm creating?
171
:Like, what, what's the level?
172
:How much do I need to put in?
173
:What's the difference between
a course and a program?
174
:How do I look at all of
these different things?
175
:So hopefully that serves you.
176
:If this episode was great, and you
really got something out of it, go
177
:ahead and give it a, like, give us
a rating, hit subscribe however it
178
:is that you're watching or listening
to this episode, and give us a
179
:shout, we would love to hear it.
