Laurea and Lisa discuss the power of words and the idea that language carries energy and reflect on how words can affect ourselves and other people, and why being intentional with what we say matters.
Laurea shares a story about Debra Poneman’s near-death experience as an example of how words can influence a person’s state. They use that story to illustrate the impact of spoken language. (link to Debra's YouTube channel in show notes).
They also talk about the challenge of being honest without slipping into toxic positivity and how to acknowledge difficult emotions while still avoiding language that deepens negativity, and note that it can be hard when we are verbally processing something difficult in real time.
A major part of the conversation focuses on observing thoughts and emotions instead of being fully absorbed by them. Lisa describes this as stepping into the role of the observer, which can create distance from distress and help support a more balanced mindset. They also mention the need for therapy, regulation, and community support in harder situations.
Then they connect the discussion to NLP and Laurea gives a personal example about dancing. A comment from childhood became a belief of “I can’t dance,” and they show how repeated language can reinforce a limitation. They give examples about how reframing words, such as adding “yet” or replacing absolutes like “never” and “always,” can shift that belief.
Finally, they discuss inner speech, the written word, and examples involving water, plants, and music to show that energy is present in many forms. They close by returning to the idea that our words, beliefs, and actions shape what we experience.
