Thank you for joining me for another
episode of Select Board Rewind.

My name is Leon Goeman, and I am the
town manager for the town of Weston,

and I'm here to talk to you about
what happened at the Select Board
5
:
meeting on September 29th, 2026.

We began an executive session where
the Select Board discussed issues
7
:
involving the Josiah Smith Tavern
and the creation of a restaurant.

After a significant discussion, we
went on to meet with the fire station
9
:
working group, or the folks that used
to be on the fire station working group,

:
with with, members of the permanent
building committee, as well as the
11
:
engineers working on the project.

:
The reason the conversation was happening
was to consider including a geothermal
13
:
system as part of that project.

:
Ultimately, after a presentation,
the Select Board voted unanimously to
15
:
proceed with the geothermal system to
be installed at the new fire station.

We then began a conversation
about Riverside Road and the
17
:
future housing project there.

In our deed review for that property,
we determined that there is a paper
19
:
street that continues onto that parcel.

Part of what we needed to do, and
what will happen at the fall town
21
:
meeting more than likely, is a public
discontinuation of that road so that

:
the housing project that w- the town is
working on there can come to fruition.

We then appointed four members to
the Weston Cultural Council, and

:
we thank all the people who stepped
forward willing to serve the town,

to serve on this very important
on this very important committee.

We really rely on the volunteer base
of the town of Weston to make a lot

of the functions of the town work,
and so we thank all of the volunteers

who give their time to the town.

We then met with the proponents of
the Drabington Housing Initiative.

This is at the old the Manor
property at 135 North Ave.

Essentially, it was an update
meeting with the Select Board and

the proponent of that project.

We continue to work with all
parties involved to bring forward

a future town meeting article
to advance this project further.

More to come on that inf- on that project.

We also met with the Regis and HYM folks.

They were there to talk about the
housing project that they are proposing.

It's an assisted living center
to be proposed at 300 Wellesley

Street, a portion of that property.

That is being discussed.

It's possible coming to the
fall town fall town meeting.

The only action that was voted on
at this meeting was that the Select

Board voted to refer the bylaw
change that has been proposed to

the Planning Board for a hearing.

So more to come on that issue as
well, but as they're looking for

a zoning change that will allow
that project to move forward.

And of course, there's a lot of other
moving parts with that, that go along with

it, including the development agreement
that will be part of that discussion.

We had some updates from the Traffic and
Sidewalk Committee about the Route 20 and

Highland Street intersection, as well as
the bike and ped plan pedestrian plan.

We did have a discussion
about the water rates.

We talked about some of the changes that
have happened over the last several years.

After a discussion, the Select Board
voted to increase all tiers about

5% over the current rate structure.
