Excel & Reflect Podcast
Season 1, Episode 6: “Normal — Whatever That Is”
What does normal look like for a Christian? In this episode of Excel & Reflect, we take a thoughtful look at the assembling of the church and the role it plays in the life of a believer. While the word “normal” is often used casually, Scripture shows us that God has designed a meaningful pattern for Christian life and worship.
Our primary text is Hebrews 10:19–25, a passage that reminds believers of the importance of drawing near to God, holding firmly to our hope, and stirring one another up to love and good works. Central to that instruction is the command not to neglect assembling together. The gathering of the church is not a mere routine or religious habit—it is a God-given opportunity for encouragement, strengthening, and spiritual growth.
We also reflect on 1 Peter 3:8–9, which highlights the attitudes Christians should bring with them when they gather: unity of mind, compassion, brotherly love, tenderness, and humility. These qualities transform the assembly into something far more than a meeting. When believers come together with these Christlike attitudes, the church becomes a place where hearts are lifted, burdens are shared, and faith is strengthened.
The purpose of the assembly is deeply relational and spiritual. It is a time designed by God for encouragement and edification—for building one another up in the faith. Yet an important question arises: How can we receive the encouragement God intends if we are not present? The blessings of fellowship, worship, prayer, and teaching are experienced most fully when believers commit themselves to gathering together.
This episode invites listeners to think honestly about their spiritual habits. What has become normal in your life? Is regular worship with the church family a consistent priority, or has something else taken its place?
God’s design for the church is beautifully simple. In its “normalcy,” the church is meant to be consistent in teaching, faithful in practice, and united in spirit. These patterns are not accidental—they are biblical, healthy, and deeply beneficial to our spiritual lives.
Join us as we reflect on the purpose and beauty of the Christian assembly and consider an important question for every believer:
What is your normal—and does it align with God’s design?
