Law enforcement officials investigating the attempted assassination of Donald Trump informed lawmakers on Wednesday that there was a 20-minute interval between the initial sighting of the gunman by U.S. Secret Service snipers on a rooftop and the subsequent firing of shots at the former president. The incident took place at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the snipers identified the suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, on a building roof outside the security perimeter at 5:52 p.m. ET. The shooting occurred at 6:12 p.m. ET, according to sources briefed on the matter.
According to law enforcement officials and lawmakers briefed on the matter, the FBI director, deputy director, and Secret Service head informed lawmakers that Thomas Matthew Crooks was identified as a person of interest a full 62 minutes before the shooting occurred.
